In the vast world of video games, the anticipation of GTA VI is a force in itself, with fans eagerly dissecting every bit of information, rumor, leak, and elusive corporate silence from Rockstar Games.
The return of the chainsaw should anger any critics of the game’s wanton violent tendencies.
Recently, we received a fresh wave of information suggesting that the upcoming game may see the resurrection of the chainsaw, a weapon that’s been absent from the series for over 14 years.
Sayan Saha, a 2D/UI designer formerly employed by Rockstar Games, was caught adding a cryptic and tantalizing footnote about GTA 6 to his LinkedIn profile. While it was quickly removed, it didn’t escape the keen eyes of quick-thinking fans who caught the creature before it was withdrawn.

Prior to updating his profile, Mr. Saha’s footage revealed that he had developed “over 500 in-game 2D assets for GTA VI”, including more than 25 “unique brands”. However, it’s the chainsaws, fire extinguishers, circuit boards, and items like boat and car engines that really caught the fans’ attention.
Adding fuel to this speculation is the fact that the chainsaw was last seen in the series in 2009’s Grand Theft Auto: Battle for Chinatown. Fans fondly remember its debut in Grand Theft Auto: Vice City as a nod to the film Scarface. This influenced the game’s design and narrative. With word that Vice City will be returning, the timing of the return of the chainsaw seems opportune.
Rockstar Games is notorious for keeping GTA 6 under the veil of secrecy. Saha’s brief (and now vanished) disclosure is consistent with this strategy. Presumably, Saha’s public profile update triggered the intervention of Rockstar’s PR team to maintain tight control over the details of the game.
GTA’s daunting task is to live up to the expectations set by its predecessor, GTA 5.
Despite the strategic silence of Rockstar and Take-Two Interactive, fans still didn’t hesitate to seek information. Expect more details to continue to emerge from every conceivable corner of the internet.
Rockstar Games has been tight-lipped about the highly anticipated official release of GTA 6. It’s unclear when the company will finally break the cliffhanger. The gaming community’s predictions for the release date range from 2024 to 2025, but official confirmation is still pending.
While fans are still torn between whether to take the news at face value, one thing is clear – Rockstar Games’ decision to keep quiet about the game will only heighten the anticipation. Whether intentional or not, this practice is cementing GTA 6’s status as one of the most anticipated games of all time.
In the eyes of many, GTA 6 is the best game ever made – and it hasn’t been released yet.
Strangely, this is the first time someone other than Rockstar has referred to a GTA game in development as GTA VI. You could argue that’s the only time a game developer calls it that. Keep in mind that Rockstar is citing GTA 6 only to confirm that the game is in development, to acknowledge the leak, and to justify the imminent exit of Red Dead Online. Regardless, GTA 6 doesn’t exist – only a new GTA game that Rockstar is working on. So, Rockstar hasn’t even started marketing GTA 6 yet, and that’s the exciting part.
Given the hype surrounding the next installment in the best-selling series, it’s exciting to imagine how the internet would crumble once the news was casually announced on Rockstar’s social media accounts.
